Lamine Yamal's role and rise at FC Barcelona

Lamine Yamal has established himself as a central figure at FC Barcelona, gaining significant influence both on the pitch and within the dressing room. His performance at the start of the campaign has solidified his status as a key player, particularly through an offensive partnership with Raphinha Dias. This rise has impacted the club’s roster management, specifically contributing to the decision to seek a buyer for Roony Bardghji.

Yamal’s ascent has continued into 2026, positioning him as a leading candidate for the Ballon d'Or following exceptional performances for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team. His candidacy is bolstered by a World Cup victory with Spain and strong domestic form in La Liga. His impact has drawn significant praise from football legends; Andrés Iniesta described his play as “extraordinary,” while Zlatan Ibrahimović labeled him the “best player in the world.”

As a cornerstone of Hansi Flick’s tactical setup, Yamal’s statistical output and influence have placed him ahead of contenders such as Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé in betting markets. His ability to impact games through dribbling, passing, and scoring has led to comparisons with the early careers of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Furthermore, Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente has highlighted the player’s “intense competitive drive” and constant desire to perform at the highest level. His success aligns with a broader club focus on La Masia youth development, with Yamal reportedly supporting the prioritization of internal talents over expensive external transfers.
