Military personnel in Colombia have sustained casualties from landmine and improvised explosive device attacks in different regions. In August, a soldier died and three others were injured following a landmine explosion in Briceño, Antioquia, during operations by the Rapid Deployment Force No. 7. Authorities linked the device to the Clan del Golfo criminal group. ~~In September, a series of~~ On September 21, two separate attacks in the Meta department resulted in the deaths of three soldiers and ~~injuries to~~ several ~~others. These incidents occurred in~~ injuries. In the rural area of La Unión, within the La Macarena municipality, troops from the 35th Rapid Deployment Battalion triggered improvised explosive devices. The deceased were identified as Elkin Quinto Mosquera, Jesús Adrián Ramírez Carrillo, and ~~Vistahermosa districts. Authorities~~ Óscar David Monterroza Suárez, while four others were wounded. A second incident occurred in the Puerto Chorizo area of Vistahermosa, where troops from the 31st Rapid Deployment Battalion were targeted by an improvised explosive followed by long-range gunfire, causing two injuries. The Colombian Army has preliminarily attributed these attacks to the Ever Castro structure of the ~~FARC dissidents, specifically the~~ Jorge Suárez Briceño block of FARC dissidents, led by Alexander Díaz Mendoza, known as ‘Calarcá’. In response, President Abelardo de la Espriella ordered the Public Force to intensify military operations in the region, stating that the attacks would not deter the state’s efforts against criminal organizations.
