The management of the Centers for Art, Culture, and Tourism (CACT) in Lanzarote has undergone scrutiny and restructuring following allegations of nepotism. The controversy began when the PSOE party demanded the removal of CEO Ángel Vázquez, after it was revealed that his son secured a permanent cleaning position through a selection process concluded in late 2025. The PSOE questioned why no measures were taken to address potential conflicts of interest regarding the official’s relatives. In response to a legal report identifying a “potential nullity” in the selection procedure—noting that the chief executive should have formally recused himself—the Partido Popular (PP) implemented an internal reorganization. As part of this restructuring, María Jesús Tovar, vice president of the Cabildo, assumed direct leadership of the CACT. This administrative shift coincided with the temporary medical leave of Ángel Vázquez. Recent reports confirm that the PP has maintained this restructuring to ensure transparency and legal compliance following the legal findings that the selection process involving Vázquez’s son could be voidable.
