Latin America pediatric care expansions

In late July 2026, Mexico's National Institute of Pediatrics announced a reinforcement of its long‑standing Hospital Education programmes. The institute expanded the Programa de Educación No Formal and the "Tu escuela en el hospital" initiative, providing preschool‑to‑secondary education for hospitalized children across 41 classrooms in 24 health facilities and issuing official certificates to aid their return to regular schools.

Later the same day, Bolivia reported a parallel push to broaden pediatric services. The Hospital Materno Infantil in Tarija will add phototherapy for newborns and move pediatric oncology care to the same unit, while the Pediatric Palliative Care Unit at Hospital Infantil Niño de Jesús highlighted multidisciplinary end‑of‑life support for children with incurable illnesses. Both countries are therefore advancing hospital‑based education and medical care to improve health outcomes for children.

These actions illustrate a regional trend in Latin America toward strengthening specialized pediatric programs, encompassing both educational support for sick children and expanded clinical services for newborns, oncology patients, and those requiring palliative care.
