The regional operation targeting violent crime and threats to officials continued through August 2026. On 6 August, Argentine federal authorities arrested a 38-year-old man in Quilmes for posting a TikTok video threatening President Javier Milei, seizing various weapons and electronic devices. In Córdoba province, the investigation into the May 2024 femicide of 15-year-old Agostina Vega progressed with several arrests. Authorities detained six individuals, including tenants Matías Jesús Córdoba and Eugenia Ludmila Ascarruz, on aggravated-concealment charges. Acoustic forensic analysis suggested these individuals were present at the residence during the killing. The primary suspect, Claudio Barrelier, faces triple-qualified homicide charges. By late August, legal representatives for the victim’s family, led by attorney Fernanda Alaniz, criticized the timeline of the investigation. The legal team suggested that delays in detaining suspects may have allowed for the “potential alteration or removal of evidence” at the crime scene on Del Campillo street. Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Gabriel Vega, has publicly shared personal correspondence from Agostina to highlight the impact of the case. On 19 September, family members and supporters marched in Córdoba from the Cofico neighborhood toward the provincial Legislature to demand justice. While prosecutor Raúl Garzón has moved to bring six individuals to trial—including Barrelier, Matías Córdoba, Eugenia Ascarruz, Osvaldo Fascetta, Soledad Andreani, and Marianela Palmero—the family continues to protest. Gabriel Vega has criticized the judicial progress as being “a medias” (halfway), demanding that the investigation expand to include other potential accomplices and cover-ups.
