Various conservation and restoration initiatives have been launched across Latin America, focusing on ecosystem protection and biodiversity. In Uruguay, educational programs have been established to promote the sustainable use of Butiá palm groves. Simultaneously, in Chile, the “Tras las huellas del pudú” initiative was introduced in the Chiloé Archipelago to educate students about the pudú deer and its forest habitat. Efforts have also expanded toward forest restoration and resource management. In Paraguay, Itaipu Binacional has worked to increase the complexity of the Atlantic Forest by incorporating native shrub and herbaceous species. More recently, Paraguay’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) presented the First National Pollinator Monitoring Report to provide a scientific basis for environmental decision-making. This progress was supported by the graduation of 85 technicians from a specialized biodiversity and ecosystem restoration course, developed with the National University of Asunción and the German Cooperation for Development (GIZ). In Guatemala, a Regional Certified Seed Bank is being established in San Cristóbal to support reforestation through the collection and distribution of high-quality native vegetative material. Similarly, in Argentina, specialists from Tucumán and other provinces participated in an international workshop in Santa Fe to discuss strategies for the collection, conservation, and propagation of native seeds to restore degraded forests. In Brazil, regional initiatives are promoting reforestation and urban greening. In Mato Grosso, the Court of Accounts (TCE-MT) is working toward a goal of distributing ten thousand seedlings throughout 2026 via its nursery, supported by partnerships for environmental education and urban reforestation. In Casimiro de Abreu, a partnership between Semap and Cedae has secured 1,450 forest and fruit seedlings to create green corridors, protect water resources, and support local farmers through urban afforestation and environmental recovery.
