In late July 2026 far‑right activist Laura Loomer traveled to Kyiv on a fact‑finding mission. After an air‑raid siren sounded, she posted on X that she had been “propagandised” by Russian media, apologized for echoing Kremlin narratives, and pledged to flag her earlier posts as mistaken. On 23 July she sat for an interview with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. Zelensky’s office stressed the meeting was “really important” so Loomer could see the war “with her own eyes”; the interview was not arranged by any Ukrainian government body and Zelensky learned of her presence via social media. Loomer, carrying Pentagon press credentials, asked about Zelensky’s ties to former President Donald Trump. Trump later praised the encounter on his platform. Analysts called the meeting an unusual form of “edgelord diplomacy,” but no policy changes followed. The next day Loomer visited the Lavra Pecerska monastic complex, touring the Cathedral of the Dormition and other sites damaged by a Russian drone strike. She condemned the attack as a “Fourth Reich” act and highlighted ongoing restoration. On 26 July Loomer traveled to Bucha, where she saw the mass grave near St. Andrew’s Church and described the psychological burden on Ukrainians. The Zelensky interview had to be moved to an underground bomb shelter after a ballistic missile strike. She told the Associated Press she had been “bamboozled by Russian propaganda” and now urges U.S. conservatives to support additional sanctions against Russia.
