Law enforcement agencies in Bahia, Brazil, have conducted several distinct operations targeting various types of criminal activity. Initial actions focused on local theft, domestic violence, and urban regulation. In Santaluz, authorities recovered stolen motorcycles involving two teenagers, aged 14 and 16. In Salvador, a 15-year-old was apprehended during ‘Operação Juventude Segura’ for repeated domestic violence against his mother, including physical assault and attempted strangulation. Additionally, in the Praia do Forte district of Mata de São João, police seized 12 quadricycles and one buggy to combat unregulated tourism and illegal passenger transport. Subsequent operations, such as ‘Operação Sombras da Madrugada’, targeted more violent crimes. This operation led to the arrest of two men suspected of murdering City Councilor Gleiber da Mota Fernandes and his advisor, Diego Castro Reis, at a farm in Santo Amaro. One of the detainees, a 28-year-old military police officer, is also under investigation for three other homicides in the Santo Amaro region. Authorities believe the double homicide was motivated by financial reward and characterize the killings as contract killings. During these arrests in Salvador and Camaçari, police seized a pistol, ammunition, mobile phones, notebooks, and a vehicle. A third suspect remains at large. More recently, in Vitória da Conquista, an 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attempting to commit feminicide by setting his pregnant partner on fire.
