After finalizing the permanent signing of Gianluca Gaetano from Cagliari on 8 July 2026 for €14 million, Atalanta’s summer activity has centered on the future of 22-year-old Daniel Maldini. By mid-July, the transfer race intensified as Sassuolo made a formal offer for Maldini, while interest from Premier League sides was also reported. Atalanta maintained a valuation of €14 million, the same amount paid for Maldini's previous loan from Lazio. On 9 August, Cagliari officially announced the signing of Maldini from Atalanta the 24-year-old on a loan deal. The agreement includes an option to purchase that becomes a mandatory obligation if specific sporting criteria are met, namely Maldini's continued presence in Serie A and the scoring of 10 personal goals. By 27 August 2026, Maldini introduced himself to the media at the Unipol Domus.
