Lea Salonga receives Hollywood Walk of Fame recognition star
Acclaimed performer Lea Salonga is scheduled has become the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Fame. The ceremony took place on September 4. She will be 4, 2026, in front of the first Filipina to receive this honor, earning Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, where she was awarded the 2,855th star in the Live Performance category. The ceremony is set to take place at 11:30 a.m. PT on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Pantages Theatre. Ming-Na Wen, who provided the speaking voice for Disney’s Mulan, is expected to participate as a guest speaker. Salonga, a Tony Award winner known for her roles originating the role of Kim in ‘Miss Saigon’ Saigon’, was honored for her extensive career in musical theater and ‘Les Misérables’, film. She is widely recognized as the singing voice for Disney’s Princess Jasmine in ‘Aladdin’ and Mulan in ‘Mulan’. The event featured tributes from fellow entertainers, including Ming-Na Wen, Brandy, and Darren Criss. In her acceptance speech, Salonga expressed gratitude to her family and mentors, stating that the achievement is a “significant milestone for the Filipino community” and expressing hope that it inspires future generations of Filipino artists to pursue careers in Hollywood. Salonga was also slated to receive the Icon Award at the closing gala of the third Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) on September 6.
