Following the Willow Fire in the Colorado mountains, which burned over 7,000 acres, organizers of the Leadville Trail 100 MTB announced a revised route for the 2026 race. The fire damaged key sections of the historic course, including Hagerman Pass Road, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Powerline descent. The modified ~~102-mile~~ 101.3-mile course, organized by Life Time, was designed to avoid fire-affected terrain while retaining the iconic Columbine climb. The adjusted route features an out-and-back structure that loops east around Turquoise Lake before re-joining the original line at the bottom of the Powerline ~~descent.~~ descent, featuring approximately 9,897 feet of climbing. The 32nd edition of the ~~race proceeded with significant local participation despite~~ race, also known as the ‘Race Across the Sky’, features a competitive professional field. Keegan Swenson enters as a top contender, holding five consecutive Leadville wins and the current course ~~modifications.~~ record. Other notable competitors include Quinn Simmons, Lachlan Morton, and Michael Woods, while Sofía Gómez Villafañe leads the women’s side. Participants include Eagle cyclist Brian Aberle, who is competing in honor of family members lost to various illnesses and accidents since 2018.
