South Korean director Lee Chang‑dong returned after an eight‑year hiatus with the Netflix original *Possible Love*. The ~~film~~ drama, which juxtaposes a laid‑off worker and his wife with an affluent documentary filmmaker and her husband, was announced as an official selection for the Special Presentation programme of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival on 20 July 2026, marking its North‑American ~~premiere, and two~~ premiere. Two days later it was confirmed for the main competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival (2‑12 September), the first time Lee has competed in Venice since *Oasis* in 2002. In late July, Lee became the first Korean ever to receive the TIFF Ebert Director Award, a lifetime‑achievement honour presented on 13 September. To meet the Academy’s theatrical‑run requirement for the 99th Oscars, *Possible Love* will secure a limited U.S. commercial run before its streaming debut, and will also have a limited Korean theatrical release on 23 September.
