In late July 2026, Lefkoşa police carried out a series of arrests targeting a range of offenses. Individuals were detained for attempting to forge passport exemption seals, for illegal residency, for causing public disorder in student housing, and for threatening family members with homicide. The cases were processed through the courts, resulting in short periods of police custody. A week later, in early August 2026, the focus shifted to more violent incidents. A 65‑year‑old Turkish‑Cypriot man was arrested after brandishing a pistol and threatening to shoot a driver, leading to a substantial cash bail and travel restrictions. Separately, a 16‑year‑old boy stabbed his brother; he was sentenced to up to ten days in custody. Both episodes were investigated by the same Lefkoşa police unit and adjudicated by Judge Şevket Gazi, illustrating continued law‑enforcement activity against diverse criminal behavior in the city. In mid-August, reports emerged of a 41‑year‑old TRNC citizen, S. Ö., arrested for a violent domestic dispute occurring on July 17. The suspect allegedly held scissors to their mother’s throat and threatened to kill family members and burn down the residence following a dispute over an estranged brother. Citing a high risk of harm to family members living in the same household, Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered the suspect to be held in custody for up to 15 days.
