Legal actions in Brazil have intensified regarding the spread of health misinformation on digital platforms. Initially, a court ordered Google Brasil to pay R$ 5 million in collective moral damages after finding the company liable for the dissemination of unscientific “miracle cures” ‘miracle cures’ and false prevention methods on YouTube during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ruling noted that while Google had removed some violating content, it failed in its duty of care under the Consumer Defense Code. Following this, the Brazilian Attorney General's Office (AGU) expanded its efforts by notifying Google to remove 97 YouTube profiles that utilize AI-generated avatars to impersonate medical professionals for the purpose of spreading health misinformation.
