Karol Nawrocki is facing scrutiny regarding both his professional conduct and his interactions with media organizations. An investigation by Newsweek Polska and Radio ZET, supported by the Institute for Media Monitoring, revealed that the Foundation for the Center for Development Strategies allegedly used expensive sponsorship tiers, such as a ‘Platinum Package’, to facilitate one-on-one meetings with Nawrocki. The report raised questions about the role of the President’s Chancellery in the organization and financing of these events, specifically noting mechanisms used during events like the Polish-American Economic Summit in New York. Simultaneously, a civil trial brought by Nawrocki against Ringier Axel Springer Polska, the publisher of Onet, has entered the public hearing phase in a Warsaw District Court. The lawsuit stems from a May 2025 article regarding Nawrocki’s past employment at the Grand Hotel in Sopot, which alleged he was involved in facilitating prostitution for guests. During recent public hearings, former colleague Natasza Geldon testified that she observed Nawrocki escorting a man and a woman to an elevator and claimed he suggested one could earn extra money by ‘bringing girls to guests’. Another former colleague, Łukasz Franczak, testified that while he observed women who appeared to be sex workers, he had no knowledge of organized activities of that nature. Journalist Piotr Głuchowski also provided testimony, though the court did not compel him to reveal confidential sources. In response to the allegations, Nawrocki has described the report as a recent development, ‘pile of lies and hatred’ and has filed a private indictment for defamation against the authors. His wife has also publicly defended him, characterizing the situation as political manipulation and a ‘dirty campaign tactic’. The Warsaw District Court has ruled that the trial will now be open to the public, though it denied requests for a live broadcast. Additionally, the court has ordered Onet to provide recordings of conversations between journalists and their informants to clarify the nature of their contact with sources.
