Guinean activist and educator Bella Bah was reportedly detained by masked individuals, identified by witnesses as national gendarmerie, at his private secondary school on August 8, 2026. The detention followed a social media post in which Bah accused the first imam of Conakry, El Hadj Mamadou Saliou Camara, of corruption and injustice. At the time of his disappearance, Bah’s family and the civic organization Tournons La Page (TLP-Guinée) raised concerns regarding his whereabouts and the legality of the operation. By August 17, 2026, Bah’s trial commenced at the Dixinn Court of First Instance in Conakry on charges of insult and defamation. During the proceedings, Bah argued that his comments were intended as an intellectual critique of religious figures in general rather than a personal attack on the Imam. Although Imam Saliou Camara publicly stated he had forgiven Bah and called for leniency, the public prosecutor requested a one-year prison sentence. ~~The~~ On August 19, 2026, the court delivered its verdict, sentencing Abdourahmane Bella Bah to six months in prison, with five months suspended.
