Hashim Thaçi, a former President of Kosovo and former leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK), remains detained in The Hague. His political trajectory has moved from student activism and guerrilla leadership during the conflict with Serbian forces to serving as Prime Minister and President of Kosovo. In the Case 12 obstruction of justice proceedings, the Specialized Prosecution in The Hague (ZPS) has submitted its final dossier, requesting a six-year prison sentence for Thaçi. The prosecution argues that his pre-trial detention for this specific case should not be credited toward his sentence, as he is already held under separate arrest warrants related to Case 06, for which he received a 25-year sentence. If the court accepts this request, Thaçi’s total combined sentence would reach 31 years. The ZPS has also requested prison terms for several other defendants: three years each for Bashkim Smakaj, Isni Kilaj, and Fadil Fazliun, and nine months for Hajredin Kuçin. Regarding detention conditions, Judge Christopher Gosnell has modified visitation rules for Thaçi. While bans on certain individuals remain to protect judicial integrity, restrictions on other visitors have been lifted. In Kosovo, Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu clarified that no official request has been made for an extraordinary parliamentary session regarding the Hague court’s decisions. However, the Assembly is scheduled to meet this Monday, where it is expected to issue a joint declaration concerning the Special Court proceedings. Additionally, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, speaking in New York, criticized the United States and Joe Biden for what he characterized as a ‘betrayal of Thaçi regarding the Special Court process.’
