The Supreme Court of India is presiding over legal proceedings regarding alleged financial irregularities at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Petitions have been filed seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and a court-monitored investigation into the misappropriation of donations. Additionally, a Public Interest Litigation and a request from MP Sudhakar Singh have called for a forensic audit of the temple trust’s finances. While the Uttar Pradesh government has stated that an investigation is underway and eight individuals have been arrested, the court has previously directed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the embezzlement. In a recent update, the SIT reported to the Supreme Court that it has identified all individuals involved in the alleged theft of donations. The SIT revealed that CCTV footage captured at least 105 instances of donation theft. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that the investigation is nearing completion, with a chargesheet expected to be filed by September 25 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. As of September 20, the SIT has confirmed the identification of all individuals involved through CCTV analysis. Solicitor General Mehta informed the Supreme Court that the Uttar Pradesh government intends to file the official chargesheet within two days to meet the 90-day statutory deadline expiring on September 25, preventing the accused from becoming eligible for default bail. In Ayodhya, a special court has rejected bail applications for three accused individuals, and prosecutors report the recovery of ₹79.85 lakh. Meanwhile, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has criticized the timing of the chargesheet, alleging delays may be a strategy to protect high-profile orchestrators.
