The LEGO Group is expanding its Super Mario theme with a new wave of eight sets scheduled for global release on January 1, 2027. Initial reports from leaks suggested a lineup of products ranging from $9.99 to $99.99, including titles such as ‘Mario’s Pipe Jump’ and ‘Fire Mario & Bowser’s Castle’. These upcoming releases are expected to coincide with the retirement of existing sets like ‘Bowser’s Castle’ and ‘Super Mario World’. Following these leaks, the LEGO Group officially unveiled the collection at gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The announcement confirmed a strategic shift for the theme, moving from the interactive electronic figures used since 2020 toward a focus on traditional LEGO minifigures and creative roleplay. The confirmed sets will feature characters such as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach, with build complexities ranging from 61 to 850 pieces. This refresh includes Mario Kart-themed racing builds, Yoshi at Mario’s House, and various battle scenarios. The new direction, featuring characters like Yoshi and Bowser alongside the core cast, marks a significant pivot in the partnership with Nintendo. By transitioning toward traditional minifigures, the series moves toward a scale compatible with other classic LEGO lines, such as LEGO City. The collection will be available globally through LEGO.com, official LEGO Stores, and selected retailers.
