In July 2026, Bosnian rider Lejla Njemčević competed at the European mountain‑bike championship in Spain. She fell on the 27th kilometre, sustaining a serious shoulder ligament injury, yet managed to finish sixth overall. A few weeks later, after medical clearance and rehabilitation, Njemčević entered the Bosnian national XCM marathon championship near Goražde. She won the title, securing her 22nd national victory and positioning herself as a contender for upcoming international races such as Sweden’s Cykelvasan and the World Championships in Italy. On August 10, 2026, Njemčević competed in the Cykelvasan race in Sweden. Despite being primarily a climber, she demonstrated strength on the 92-kilometer flat course, finishing fourth in the general classification and third in the sprint classification. She finished less than one second behind the second and third-place riders following a group sprint. Following her performance in Sweden, Njemčević competed in the Balkan Championships in Romania. She secured her sixth Balkan Championship gold medal with a dominant victory on a 72-kilometer course featuring 2,500 meters of elevation gain. She finished 39 minutes and 42 seconds ahead of runner-up Mada Miruna, earning 30 UCI ranking points and becoming the most successful female cyclist in the history of the Balkan Championships.
