Leon Bridges releases album release ‘Happiness Anytime’
Texas-based soul and R&B singer Leon Bridges has released his fifth studio album, titled ‘Happiness Anytime’. Anytime’, via Columbia Records. The 12-track project is a collaborative effort featuring production from J. Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of the British soul collective Jungle. The album represents a stylistic shift for Bridges, moving toward expansive, danceable grooves and contemporary soundscapes influenced by soundscapes. Influences for the project include Afrobeat, bossa nova, disco, dancehall, reggae, and dancehall. Brazilian music, with specific nods to Fela Kuti, Jorge Ben, and Paul Simon’s ‘The Rhythm of the Saints’. Bridges noted that the project aims to provide ‘lightness’ and a sense of joy to help listeners release the tensions of modern life. Following To capture a sense of immediacy, the release, Bridges performed production team followed a medley rule of tracks, including completing a definitive track by the end of each recording session, resulting in six songs being finished in just four days. The album includes tracks such as ‘Talk It Over’, ‘Light The Way’, and ‘Illusion’, ‘Tears of Joy’, and ‘All Day, All Night’ featuring Lydia Kitto. It also features the ballad ‘Take My Hand’, which was recorded in a single take with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Eric Harland. Following the release, Bridges performed a medley of tracks on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
