Leopard attacks in Gujarat
Overview
A series of fatal leopard attacks involving young children has been reported in the state of Gujarat.
In late September, a six-year-old girl was killed by a leopard at a farm in Dedkiyal village, located in the Junagadh district. Following the incident, the Gujarat Forest Department initiated an operation involving patrolling, tracking, and the placement of eight cages to capture the animal.
In early October, a three-year-old child was killed in Bhinar village, within the Navsari district, after a leopard reportedly snatched the child from in front of his mother. In response, the Forest Department deployed five teams to track the predator. Local authorities have begun preparing documentation for compensation and ex-gratia payments to the victim’s family.
