Leopard rescue injury in Karnataka
Overview
In Karnataka, India, a forest department official was injured during a rescue operation for a leopard on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway. The animal had been struck by a vehicle and fell into a roadside drain with injuries to its eye and hip. During the administration of anesthesia, the leopard lunged at the rescue team, causing forest guard Maralusiddappa to sustain injuries to his hand, leg, and chest. Because no trained wildlife veterinarian was available in the Davanagere forest division, a team from Hampi was summoned to assist. Following a second dose of anesthesia, the leopard was captured and moved to a veterinary facility for treatment.
