Six-year-old Lian Yunzhi, a speedcuber from Chengdu, China, has set new women’s world records for the 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube. During two World Cube Association-certified competitions held in Wuhan and Guangzhou, she broke the record twice within a three-day period. Lian first achieved an average solve time of 4.52 seconds before improving her mark to 4.27 seconds, seconds during a competition in Guangzhou on September 16, making her the first female speedcuber to record an average time below 4.5 seconds. Her individual single record for the 3x3x3 cube is noted at 3.54 seconds. Lian began solving the puzzle at age four, when her initial times were approximately 90 seconds per cube. To support her development, her family has sought specialized training in Shanghai. Her mother, Lin Yangxi, noted that while Lian previously participated in activities such as dance and gymnastics, the family decided to invest more heavily in speedcubing due to her significant potential. Lian currently practices two to three hours daily and has mastered more than 1,300 algorithms.
