Lidl is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Europe. In Germany, the retailer is deploying stations at approximately 700 locations, featuring fast-charging capabilities of up to 360 kW. Customers using the Lidl Plus App and Lidl Pay can access discounted rates starting from €0.29/kWh, though charging is limited to one hour per vehicle during store hours. In Great Britain, Lidl GB is investing £10 million this financial year to install roughly 100 new rapid chargers at existing sites and to equip most new stores with rapid charging facilities. As part of this expansion, the retailer has reduced rapid charging tariffs for Lidl Plus members from 62p/kWh to 59p/kWh. The company stated this reduction could save drivers approximately £4 per session. This follows a broader £25 million investment in the UK network since 2017, with one-third of Lidl GB stores currently providing rapid charging services. In the Netherlands, Lidl has completed the installation of dedicated charging infrastructure across all its regional distribution centers, marked by the opening of a sixth fast-charging station at its Waddinxveen facility. This rollout supports the company’s goal of supplying all Dutch stores via 100% electric and emission-free transport by 2027. To address grid congestion, Lidl is making these charging points available to local transporters and other businesses through reserved time slots. The Waddinxveen facility utilizes green electricity, partially generated by solar panels on the warehouse roof.
