The Dominican Winter League (LIDOM) 2026-27 season, dedicated to the memory of Héctor Rizek Llabaly and played for the Copa BanReservas, officially commenced on October 16. Prior to the season opener, teams finalized preparations. Gigantes del Cibao scheduled training to begin on September 25 at Estadio Julián Javier, with General Manager Jaylon Pimentel confirming the return of American first baseman Jake Holton. To prepare for the draft, the organization released pitchers Fernando Abad and Benony Robles. Leones del Escogido announced its Baseball Operations department, led by General Manager Carlos Peña and supported by MLB professionals including Eduardo Pérez and José Almonte. Early season play has seen several dominant performances. Estrellas Orientales emerged as a strong force, maintaining a 2-0 record following an 11-0 shutout against Toros del Este and an 8-3 victory over Leones del Escogido, the latter featuring a five-inning performance from pitcher Jaime Barría. Gigantes del Cibao also moved to 2-0 after a 7-1 win over Tigres del Licey, featuring two home runs from prospect Jefferson Rojas; Rojas became the first Gigantes player to hit two home runs in a single game at Estadio Quisqueya since 2008. Toros del Este secured their first victory of the season with a 5-3 win over Águilas ~~Cibaeñas.~~ Cibaeñas, driven by two RBIs each from Gilberto Celestino and Jhonkensy Noel. Conversely, Tigres del Licey, Leones del Escogido, and Águilas Cibaeñas have all struggled with early 0-2 starts. Technological updates continue as LIDOM implements the MLB-supported Automated Ball-Strike System (ABS). Regarding roster news, Licey pitcher César Valdez remains sidelined with arm irregularities as he undergoes a recovery process; his specific role in the rotation is currently being determined by team management.
