Ecuadorian football club Liga de Quito has experienced a period of mixed results across different competitions. In late July, the club struggled in the LigaPro Serie A, remaining winless in five league games following a 1-1 draw against Manta FC. By mid-August, the focus shifted to the Copa Libertadores. Following a 1-1 draw against Mirassol on August 13, Liga de Quito faced a decisive fifth leg at the Casa Blanca stadium on August 20 to determine which team would advance to the quarterfinals. Yael Falcón Pérez was appointed to referee the encounter. Liga de Quito successfully advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Mirassol in a penalty shootout following a scoreless aggregate draw. The Ecuadorian side secured a 5-4 victory from the penalty spot, aided by standout performances from goalkeeper Gonzalo Valle. Valle, who stopped the first penalty kick in the shootout and made several crucial saves during regulation, earned a spot in the CONMEBOL team of the week. Despite the qualification, head coach Gustavo Álvarez expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s offensive output and tactical precision, noting that the club is looking to recruit a new player to address these deficiencies before their upcoming quarterfinal match against Palmeiras. Financially, the tournament has been lucrative for the club, which has accumulated USD 7.31 million in prize money. If they defeat Palmeiras and reach the semifinals, total earnings could rise to USD 9.61 million. To bolster the squad for the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals and the concluding phases of LigaPro, the club has officially welcomed Argentine defender Marcelo Weigandt on a one-year loan from Boca Juniors. Weigandt, formerly of Inter Miami, is intended to address defensive flank injuries. In late August, Liga de Quito secured a 2-0 victory against Emelec in the 26th round of the Liga Ecuabet at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium.
