An investigation was launched by An Garda Síochána following the death of Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, a 33-year-old Brazilian national, at an apartment complex on Cecil Street in Limerick. After she was found unresponsive, a post-mortem examination by the State Pathologist confirmed she had died a “violent death” with injuries consistent with being stabbed. Subsequent developments identified the incident as a murder-suicide. Authorities believe the couple’s relationship had recently broken down. Ms. Pereira Rosa, a law graduate who worked for a cleaning company, was noted as a popular member of the local Brazilian community. A fundraising campaign has been established to assist her family with repatriation costs to Sorocaba, Brazil, while the Brazilian Embassy in Dublin continues to monitor the situation. In response to the tragedy, the feminist movement Limerick ROSA held a vigil in Limerick to honor Ms. Rosa. During the event, community members and activists protested against gender-based violence, calling for increased awareness and education regarding femicide and the safety of women.
