Liquidation of Grupo Simpala entities in Brazil

Overview

The Central Bank of Brazil ordered the extrajudicial liquidation of two Grupo Simpala entities, Simpala Lançadora e Administradora de Consórcios and Simpala S. A. Crédito, Financiamento e Investimento. The decision followed the institutions’ compromised economic-financial status and “grave violations of the rules that govern their activities.” The Central Bank also ordered that the assets of the companies' controllers and former administrators be made unavailable.

Following the liquidation, the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) began disbursing R$ 635.3 million to approximately 22,000 eligible investors and depositors. These payouts are subject to a limit of R$ 250,000 per individual or legal entity.
