On August 10, a 54-year-old American man was shot near the Hotel Santa Justa on Rua dos Correeiros in Lisbon’s Baixa district. Following the incident, the assailant fled the scene, and emergency services provided medical assistance to the victim. By the following day, authorities reported that the victim was a Swiss tourist who had been hospitalized. The Public Security Police (PSP) identified and detained a suspect allegedly involved in the shooting. The Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) characterized the arrest as a “significant result of police action,” with the Judiciary Police leading the investigation. Subsequent reports clarified that the shooting occurred during a dispute involving individuals selling pressed bay leaf as a substitute for hashish, and that the injured party was a Swedish tourist.
