Liverpool Football Club confirmed the signing of 24-year-old French winger Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain on August 31, 2026. The transfer, valued at a base fee of 125 million euros (£106 million) with potential bonuses reaching up to 145 million euros (£123 million), is the second most expensive in the club’s history. Barcola signed a contract through June 2031 and will wear the number 29 shirt. As Barcola attempts to replace Mohamed Salah, he initially faced scrutiny for failing to record a goal or assist in his first six appearances. Following a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield on October 10, 2026, Barcola attributed his difficulties to the “high intensity and physical demands of the Premier League compared to Ligue 1.” While critics such as Gary Neville questioned his impact, manager Andoni Iraola maintained his support, stating that Barcola’s contributions were being overlooked due to a “narrow focus on scoring and assists.” Barcola achieved a significant breakthrough on October 13, 2026, during a UEFA Champions League match against LASK in Austria. In a high-scoring 6-3 victory at the Raiffeisen Arena, Barcola scored a hat-trick, with goals in the 24th, 37th, and 66th minutes. Other scorers for Liverpool included Ronald Araujo, Jeremie Frimpong, and Lewis Koumas. Despite the offensive success, Liverpool’s defense conceded three goals to LASK’s Robert Ljubicic and Florian Flecker. The performance, supported by fellow signing Florian Wirtz, marks a turning point for the winger following his period of intense scrutiny. In recent interviews, Barcola noted that the Premier League feels “less tactical” than his experience under Luis Enrique at PSG, citing fewer positional shifts. He also highlighted the physical toll of the league, mentioning muscle cramps caused by the intense pace and constant transitions.
