Local protests have emerged in Spain regarding different social and environmental issues. On September 6, thousands of residents in Almería gathered in Plaza Vieja for a FEMP-organized mobilization. Protesters asserted that Ceuta’s status as Spanish territory is ‘indisputable and non-negotiable,’ characterizing the situation as a challenge to national sovereignty and border stability. On September 4, Spanish security forces activated an alert following social media calls for a mass mobilization on September 20. This movement, promoted via Moroccan social media accounts, aims to march on the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which organizers describe as ‘occupied territories.’
