During the Tokyo Game Show 2026, Dragami Games announced a significant expansion of the ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ franchise. This includes the development of a full sequel, ‘Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back’, which is scheduled for a 2027 release on PlayStation 5. The sequel will feature protagonist Juliet Starling in a new setting called Jaredwood and will include updated gameplay mechanics. In addition to the video game sequel, the franchise is expanding into film and television. A live-action, R-rated action comedy prequel film is in development, focusing on Juliet Starling’s high school years during a zombie ~~outbreak.~~ outbreak at San Romero High School. The film involves an international production team including producers Joe Teng, Robert Franke, Takafumi Yuki, Kirk Shaw, and Patricio Rabuffetti. While the original game was co-written by James Gunn, there is currently no indication that he or original director Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda will be involved in the film project. This media expansion also reportedly includes an upcoming animated series.
