In Lombardy, regional energy initiatives have focused on renewable stability and industrial decarbonization. Massimo Sertori, the regional assessor for energy and local authorities, identified hydroelectric power as a strategic sector for Italy, noting its capacity to provide programmable renewable energy for grid stability. To address efficiency issues caused by melting glaciers, A2A introduced Project Teti, an autonomous underwater robot designed to remove sediment from reservoirs. Efforts have expanded into hydrogen technology through the H2iseO project. Fnm President Andrea Gibelli previously announced that a hydrogen production and distribution plant in Edolo marks the region’s first industrial project of its kind. This initiative includes facility, developed by Ferrovienord as part of the Fnm Group, utilizes PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funding, with 97.2 million euros allocated toward these plants and a hydrogen refueling station in Rovato. The Edolo plant produces hydrogen through electrolysis using renewable electricity, which is then stored and distributed via high-pressure dispensers. Following a visit by officials including President Attilio Fontana, dynamic testing for of hydrogen-powered trains, with trains is currently underway on the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo line. Following these acceptance tests and a period of experimental service, commercial services anticipated by operations for the hydrogen trains are scheduled to begin in 2027. Additionally, energy company Alperia has introduced the Sybil platform, which uses artificial intelligence and predictive modeling to assist the pharmaceutical industry in optimizing energy consumption and decarbonizing industrial processes.
