London counterfeit vinyl manufacturing operation
Overview
Rehan Ahmed, a 40-year-old resident of West London, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for operating a large-scale counterfeit vinyl manufacturing scheme. Operating under names such as ‘Phoenix of Vinyl’ and ‘Paragon Music’, Ahmed produced high-quality duplicates of albums by numerous major artists, including Taylor Swift, The Beatles, and Beyoncé.
The illegal operation, which spanned seven years and generated over £2.7 million in profit, was uncovered following a sting operation by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in February 2024. Subsequent police raids on his facility in Acton resulted in the seizure of thousands of counterfeit records and significant production equipment, including 70-year-old pressing machines and 3,000 metal stampers. Authorities described the seizure as one of the largest of fake vinyl in the country.
