The Los Angeles Chargers are experiencing a difficult start to the 2026 season, marked by roster management issues and poor on-field performance. Early scrutiny focused on general manager Joe Hortiz regarding offseason decisions, specifically concerning the offensive line and the acquisition of free agents, alongside injuries to key players like center Tyler Biadasz.

Following a 24-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 3, the Chargers fell to an 0-3 record, marking the worst season start of head coach Jim Harbaugh’s career. While the Chargers' defense limited the Bills to 16 points despite committing five turnovers, the offense struggled with efficiency. Quarterback Justin Herbert completed 20 of 29 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown, but also threw an interception. Regarding the lack of execution, Herbert remarked, “That’s something that we have to figure out and we’re going to do our best to keep listening to our coaching.”

In the wake of the defeat, Harbaugh addressed Herbert’s recent struggles directly, telling the quarterback to “Be better” regarding his on-field decision-making. While Harbaugh expressed long-term confidence in Herbert’s potential, the team's offensive performance remains a primary concern. Analysts have criticized the lack of a clear offensive plan under Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel to support Herbert.

As the team's struggles continue, public debate has intensified regarding the future of the roster. In addition to previous criticisms regarding Justin Herbert’s value, former Chargers defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko suggested on social media that the team should consider trading key players such as Khalil Mack and Derwin James to facilitate a rebuild.
