The extreme cold wave driven by an Antarctic air mass has continued to impact Argentina and has now extended into parts of Paraguay. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued yellow alerts for extreme cold and strong winds across numerous Argentine provinces, including Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Corrientes, Misiones, Santa Fe, Córdoba, San Luis, Mendoza, Neuquén, and La Pampa. Severe late-season frosts have hit rural northern Buenos Aires Province, where temperatures reached as low as -6.1°C. In Berdier, a temperature of -4.5°C matched a 60-year low for September. These unusual conditions prompted emergency measures from fruit growers in San Pedro, such as burning wood between trees to protect blossoms. While wheat, corn, and pea crops are on alert, specialists from INTA suggest wheat may avoid critical damage as many plots are in the tillering stage. In Uruguay, freezing conditions have spread to the Lavalleja department, which recorded -4.2°C, and Florida, which reached -3°C, raising concerns regarding fog and agricultural frost. Forecasts indicate ongoing instability. In Concepción del Uruguay, Argentina, temperatures are expected to rise temporarily before a new cold air mass arrives late in the week, bringing wind gusts and a sharp decline in temperatures. In Tucumán, storms and rain are expected, with potential light snow in mountainous areas above 2,500 meters. The Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) is also expected to see rising temperatures followed by light rain and a cold front by the weekend. Recent severe weather, including snow and ice, has caused significant travel disruptions. In Neuquén, multiple provincial routes have been declared impassable, particularly in the Andean zone, including Provincial Route 62 near San Martín de los Andes and Route 26 between Caviahue and Copahue.
