On August 19, 2026, a female ICICI Bank relationship manager, identified as Divya Mishra, was shot and killed in broad daylight outside a bank branch in the Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow. Subsequent findings revealed the incident was a murder-suicide involving Manas Vajpayee, an employee of the State Bank of India. Investigations determined that Vajpayee shot and killed his estranged wife, Mishra, after they spoke for several minutes outside the branch. CCTV footage and eyewitnesses indicate that Vajpayee confronted Mishra, physically assaulted her, and then opened fire. Mishra was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. The couple had been married for approximately 12 years but had been living separately for over a year, during which time Mishra had filed for divorce. Following the shooting, Vajpayee reportedly fled to his residence, where he shot his 28-year-old sister, Shiva Vajpayee, and then committed suicide. Shiva was reportedly facing mental health issues. Before his death, Vajpayee posted a WhatsApp status claiming his wife had cheated on him and stating his intention to kill his sister and himself. Investigators are also looking into potential motives involving a reported financial dispute of approximately 1 crore rupees related to alimony and dowry, alongside claims regarding domestic disputes. Authorities recovered three unlicensed firearms from the residence as part of the ongoing investigation. Witnesses and family ~~members~~ members, including the victim’s sister, journalist Pragya Mishra, have reported a history of domestic abuse and stalking by the suspect. Police are continuing to investigate the source of the unlicensed weapons and whether the killings were pre-planned.
