Lucknow sexual assault investigations

In early July 2026, police in Lucknow opened a case after a widow reported that a property dealer had lured her into his car, drugged her with a sedative and attempted to rape her. The woman raised an alarm and the suspect fled. Authorities registered charges of attempted rape, fraud and intimidation and began an investigation, also noting threatening calls made to the victim.

Later in the month, on July 17 a 16‑year‑old girl was abducted and held captive for three days in a hotel in the PGI area of Lucknow, where she was repeatedly raped. The crime involved five suspects, including 70‑year‑old Dwarika Raidas, who carried out the main assault, and four accomplices who facilitated the kidnapping and confinement. After the victim’s aunt reported her disappearance, police tracked and arrested all five perpetrators on July 27, filing the case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Both incidents illustrate ongoing law‑enforcement efforts to address serious sexual violence and related crimes in Lucknow, with investigations leading to formal charges and arrests.
