Lufthansa Group has announced a partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink to deploy high-speed, low-earth orbit satellite internet across its fleet. The rollout is scheduled to begin on August 19, 2026, starting with a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo. The initiative, branded as ‘Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi’, aims to equip approximately 850 aircraft by 2029. This expansion will cover various group airlines, including SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Eurowings, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, and Lufthansa City Airlines. The service is intended to support data-intensive applications such as video streaming and cloud-based work. Access will be free of charge for Miles & More members and Travel ID users across all travel classes. To maintain onboard etiquette, passengers will be prohibited from making voice or video calls and live streaming. This move is part of a broader industry trend where major airlines are shifting service priorities toward high-speed connectivity. Some carriers are prioritizing satellite internet over complimentary catering, reflecting a shift toward individualized services as travelers increasingly value connectivity alongside ticket price and safety.
