The luxury SUV market continues to see a push toward high-performance and highly customizable models. In July 2026, Mercedes-Maybach introduced the GLS 2026, a flagship model designed as a ‘mobile lounge’ with a focus on rear-seat comfort and sound insulation. Concurrently, Lucid presented the Gravity Grand Touring, an electric SUV featuring over 1,251 hp and significant cargo capacity. By August 2026, Lucid expanded its lineup with the unveiling of the 2027 Gravity GT-S at Monterey Car Week. In the performance SUV segment, the GT-S faces competition from models such as the Tesla Model X Plaid and the Rivian R1S Quad-Motor. In a separate development, Lucid announced a delay for its upcoming Cosmos SUV, which is now projected to launch in the second half of 2027. This delay is reportedly part of an ‘operational reset’ intended to improve cash flow and reduce capital expenditures.
