Director Dina Duma’s film, ‘Skateboarding Is Not for Girls’, was selected for the main competition at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival following previous recognition at the Jerusalem and Tribeca film festivals. The film follows two sisters navigating societal expectations and economic uncertainty. At the conclusion of the Sarajevo Film Festival, the film received the Special Award for Youth Perspectives. The jury cited its authentic portrayal of youth in marginalized communities and its exploration of female growth and solidarity. The festival also ~~saw broader success~~ marked a historic milestone for Macedonian ~~cinema, as~~ cinema through Kosara Mitic’s film ~~‘17’ earned~~ ‘17’, which secured four ~~separate honors, including~~ awards. In the official competition, Eva Kostic received the ‘Heart of Sarajevo’ for Best ~~Actress.~~ Actress, with the jury describing her performance as a ‘fearless entry onto the acting scene’. Director Kosara Mitic was honored with a Special Award for the Promotion of Gender Equality for her direction regarding social taboos and patriarchal toxicity. Additionally, the film won the Cineuropa award for production and the Audience Award for Best Film.
