Macedonian media and cultural institutions are initiating programs to discover and support new musical talent within the country. Macedonian Radio Television (MRT) announced plans to revive the ‘Skopje Festival’ as part of a strategy to increase original production. This initiative intends to integrate the festival into a talent development system that includes licensed formats like ‘Macedonian Idol’ and ‘X Factor’ by 2027, providing professional support for performers to create original repertoires. The festival is intended to serve as a final stage where performers present original compositions created alongside local composers, lyricists, and arrangers. Concurrently, the International Music Festival ‘Ohrid Fest – Ohridsky Trubaduri’ launched a public competition to select one male and one female vocalist. The search, which requires demo or studio submissions, is scheduled to run from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027, with a professional commission tasked with selecting the winners. The competition seeks to find “authentic musical personalities with unique styles and charisma” to help them launch professional careers.
