Macklemore was removed from the remaining United States dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour after using his performance to advocate for Palestinian liberation. During an opening set, the rapper called for a “Free Palestine” and performed the song “Hind’s Hall.” Tour promoters noted that several venues would not permit the performance. Specifically, Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft indicated that Macklemore’s rhetoric had crossed a line deemed harmful to the Jewish community. Ed Sheeran addressed the situation by stating his concerts are intended to be spaces that unite people rather than divide them through politics, clarifying that the decision to remove the supporting act was not his own. Following his removal, several other artists reportedly withdrew from the tour in solidarity. Macklemore subsequently launched a “Free Palestine” tour. During a performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, he reiterated support for Palestine and called for freedom in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, and Haiti, while also expressing solidarity with those concerned about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As the artist prepares for an upcoming performance at Wembley in the United Kingdom, a group of 50 peers, led by former government adviser Baron Walney, has urged the UK Home Secretary to ban the musician. The group claims the concert is “not conducive to the public good,” alleging that proceeds may benefit the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) and arguing that the musician should not be granted the privilege of raising funds for such an organization on British soil. Upcoming tour dates in Dublin, Paris, and London have already sold out.
