Following the February 6 earthquakes, economic recovery efforts in Malatya, Turkey, have focused on strengthening industrial infrastructure, production, and employment. Oğuzhan Ata Sadıkoğlu, Chairman of the Malatya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MTSO), initially requested that 6th Region investment incentives be extended until the end of 2030 to provide stability for investors and combat the uncertainty caused by short-term, one-year increments. Subsequent efforts have expanded to include discussions on diversifying the local economy. While the apricot industry remains a major brand, leaders are have been advocating for growth in sectors such as textiles, food, machinery, electronics, furniture, and mining. The goal is to shift from exporting raw materials to increasing capacity in processing, packaging, and branding. In Ankara, local officials have met with government representatives, including the recent developments, AK Party Malatya Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, Bülent Tüfenkci has pledged support for textile businesses currently operating in the Tekel Depoları area. Textile Cooperative President Veli Kızılarslan noted that allocating suitable land could allow these businesses to request continued investment support, employ approximately 2,500 people. Tüfenkci indicated he would discuss securing locations for these operations with the development of mega industrial zones, and relevant ministry, citing the expansion of target sectors including health technologies, medical device production, and defense technology. Fırıncılar Organized Industrial Zone as a potential option. He also reported that negotiations are ongoing with the ministry to extend 6th Region incentives that are nearing expiration to maintain the area's investment advantages.
