In late July 2026, the Malaysian government outlined how its upcoming assistance payments would be delivered. Large cash benefits such as pensions, the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and JKM were to be transferred to bank accounts, while daily‑living subsidies under the SARA programme would be loaded onto the chip of each recipient’s MyKad for use at registered stores. The briefing noted possible delays: MyKad credits could arrive hours or a day late, and bank transfers might be held up by outdated or mismatched account details. By early August 2026, the government announced the launch of Phase 3 of the STR cash‑aid scheme for the 2026 financial year. Approximately 5.3 million eligible households would receive payments ranging from RM100 to RM600, based on income, family size and marital status. Payments would be credited to active bank accounts, with an option to collect cash at Bank Simpanan Nasional counters for those without accounts. The rollout was scheduled to begin in August, with eligibility and payment details accessible through the mySTR portal. By mid-August 2026, the phased distribution of Phase 3 began, involving an allocation of RM1.2 billion. The recipient pool grew by 300,000 compared to the start of the year, totaling 5.3 million recipients, including 3.9 million low-to-lower-middle-income households and 1.4 million single elderly individuals. For this phase, payments range from RM150 to RM600, with single elderly recipients receiving RM150. Total STR disbursements for all three phases in 2026 have reached RM3.6 billion. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated the increase in recipients reflects a commitment to aiding those facing cost-of-living challenges while the government pursues long-term economic reforms. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan noted that the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) program will remain a priority in the 2027 Budget to assist vulnerable groups with living costs.
