Malaysian authorities have intensified enforcement operations targeting undocumented immigration and business non-compliance across several states. Previous operations included the detention of 472 undocumented migrants during ‘Ops Mega’ in Kuala Lumpur, as well as various raids in Kelantan, Klang, Johor, Ipoh, and Sarawak. Recent enforcement efforts have expanded to include significant detentions in Kelantan, where authorities identified 171 individuals involved in illegal border crossings between Malaysia and Thailand between January and August. In Terengganu, inspections at industrial sites and palm oil mills resulted in the detention of 20 undocumented migrants, primarily from Bangladesh and Indonesia. Expanding the scale of enforcement, the Malaysian Immigration Department reported that between January 1 and September 17, 2026, authorities conducted approximately 9,700 operations nationwide, resulting in the detention of over 57,000 undocumented immigrants. On September 27, 2026, the Immigration Department (JIM) conducted a special operation at an entertainment center near Jalan Klang Lama in Kuala Lumpur. Following a month of intelligence gathering, authorities arrested four foreign nationals—three Chinese men and one Filipino man—who lacked valid travel documents. Three local men were issued notices to assist with the investigation. Maritime enforcement has also increased. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) conducted two operations targeting unauthorized fishing and immigration violations. In Perak, authorities seized 126 collapsible fish traps and two unregistered boats, detaining four Myanmar nationals. In Sabah, MMEA intercepted a foreign vessel 18 nautical miles west of Pulau Mantanani, detaining 65 crew members, including a Filipino skipper, for suspected violations of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Fisheries Act 1985. By September 29, 2026, the Immigration Department reported that 10,374 enforcement operations conducted since January 1 had resulted in the arrest of 37,313 undocumented immigrants following 137,603 inspections.
