In September 2026, several Malaysian universities began welcoming new student cohorts for the 2026/2027 academic session. Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) registered 4,982 new students, including 211 international students and several students from B40 families receiving welfare assistance. Simultaneously, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) enrolled 3,302 undergraduate students across its Parit Raja and Pagoh campuses. Following these intakes, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) commenced registration for 4,824 new students across its Serdang and Sarawak campuses. The UPM cohort includes diverse individuals such as a national netball athlete and an Orang Asli student who achieved a 4.0 STPM score. By late September, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) registered 2,546 new students. The intake featured several sets of siblings enrolling together, including triplets from Selangor—Nur Fatihah Nazaruddin, Nur Insyirah Nazaruddin, and Nur Aqilah Nazaruddin—who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science (Applied Mathematics) with Honours. Additionally, three brothers from Alor Setar, Kedah, registered at the university, noting that the shared institution provides mutual support and reduces family travel and registration costs.
