Urban infrastructure and mobility projects in Manaus have progressed through various stages of renovation and new construction. In late July, the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (IMMU) completed upgrades at the Parque das Nações transit station. Simultaneously, reconstruction of a lower passage in the Chapada neighbourhood reached approximately 60% completion. By mid-August, focus shifted to the Passarão road complex in the West Zone. Following the installation of large pre-molded beams, the project reached 49% execution by mid-September, with the first stage—a ramp connecting Ponta Negra to the São Jorge neighbourhood—scheduled for release on September 17. In a recent update, the Manaus municipal government announced the early delivery of this first stage. The 326-meter upper ramp, part of an R$ 80.3 million investment, is expected to open to traffic this Thursday, September 17. The project aims to alleviate congestion in the Compensa, Santo Agostinho, and Nova Esperança neighbourhoods. While this initial section was completed ahead of schedule, the full complex, including an underground trench and a surface-level roundabout, remains under construction with a projected completion date of May or June 2027. Parallel to these developments, the Public Ministry of the State of Amazonas (MPAM) has initiated an administrative procedure to monitor the project. The investigation is examining potential urban planning flaws, specifically whether the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (Implurb) provided the required technical analysis regarding land use, urban impact, and regional mobility. As of mid-September 2026, the upper ramp of the Passarão Road Complex has officially opened to traffic to improve flow at the intersection of Avenida Brasil and Avenida Coronel Teixeira. The broader project is reported to be 47% complete. Concurrently, the city is managing separate urban crises.
