Manchester United and AS Roma Champions League match
Overview
AS Roma and Manchester United met in a Champions League fixture that resulted in a 3-2 comeback victory for Manchester United. Roma initially held a 2-0 lead following a goal by Soulé and a penalty by Malen.
The match was characterized by controversial officiating by referee Jesús Gil Manzano. A penalty awarded to Manchester United following contact between Mancini and Cunha was ordered to be retaken after the initial save by Vasquez was deemed invalid due to the involvement of Bryan Cristante. Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini criticized the decision, referring to the penalty as a “rigorino”.
Following the defeat, Roma supporters reported negative experiences in Manchester, alleging intimidating behavior by local police. Fans claimed they faced overcrowding and hostile treatment, with one report alleging that a supporter experiencing a medical emergency was restrained by police instead of receiving immediate medical attention.
